CVS Mobile and CTC Mobile Setup Instructions

CVS And CTC For Windows Mobile

Download and save the CVS/CTC Mobile .zip file to your PC/laptop's hard drive in a folder of your choosing. Extract and run the CVS/CTC Setup Wizard and follow the instructions on each of the wizard's pages until the CASL WinMobile Installer appears. Click the [Start Install] button on the installer to send the needed files to the Microsoft ActiveSync manager. If your Windows Mobile device is connected to the PC/laptop, ActiveSync will download the needed files at the time of installation. If your Windows Mobile device is not connected, the files will be downloaded the next time your Windows Mobile device is connected and ActiveSync is started.

Using the new Database Definitions Files
Starting with CVSWm v2.0, the CASL ActiveSync transport utility will no longer be used to install databases on the Windows Mobile/Pocket PC devices. Instead, you will need to copy any or all of the database definition files from your PC to your Windows Mobile/Pocket PC device using the ActiveSync Explorer. We have found this method to be faster and more efficient and is fully compatible with Windows Mobile 5/6.

During the initial installation of CVS/CTC Mobile on your PC/laptop, the Setup Wizard will create a folder named "\Files\" in the "C:\Program Files\SEData Tech\CVSWm\" folder. You may copy any or all files in this folder to an SD or Compact Flash card using any card reader/writer of your choice or the ActiveSync Explorer to copy directly to the Windows Mobile/Pocket PC device. A minimum of 1.5 MB of free storage space is required in order to copy all the database definition files to your Windows Mobile/Pocket PC device or media card. Files can be placed on an SD or Compact Flash Card or in any sub-folder under "\My Documents\" on the Windows Mobile/Pocket PC device. To load a database definition file into the database storage area, select the Load Files option from the Files menu on the main screen. A file "Open" dialog window will appear displaying all available CVS/CTC Mobile files that are on the Windows Mobile/Pocket PC device and/or media card. Select the file year you want to load by tapping the file name in the dialog window. The files will be created in the device's database storage area when the [Yes] button on the confirmation window is selected.

CVS And CTC For Palm OS

Download and save the CVS/CTC Palm .zip file to your PC/laptop's hard drive in a folder of your choosing. Extract and run the CVS/CTC Palm Setup Wizard and follow the instructions on each of the wizard's pages. During setup, the Setup Wizard will display another wizard, the pInstaller Wizard for Palm. This wizard contains a user option page where you can install all of the databases to your Palm Powered handheld or select the year(s) you want to install. The pInstaller Wizard will send the selected files to your HotSync Manager so they will be downloaded on your next HotSync.

Note that the Setup Wizard displays the years in groups starting with 1971 to 1974. All groups, thereafter, are displayed in 5 year increments starting with the beginning of the decade or the middle of the decade. Databases for years 2005 to 2008 are installed by default to the handheld along with the application files. Click on the icon next to the group years to select or deselect that group. When the context menu appears, selecting "Install all files to Palm" will install the databases for the five year group selected. Selecting "Install to SecureDigital (SD Card)" will install the group databases to the "/PALM/Launcher/" folder on an installed SD media card. Selecting "Do not install" will bypass that group and none of the years in that group will be downloaded to the handheld.

To install databases for individual years, expand the group to display the years associated to that group. Selection of the individual years that you want installed to your handheld is accomplished in the same manner as selecting a year group. However, you will notice that each individual year has two listings, an index file and a data file. Both of these files must be selected for each of the individual years that you want to download to your handheld.

Once you have selected the group or individual years to download to the handheld, complete the process by selecting the [Next] button. After the initial installation of CVS/CTC Palm, you may delete databases from the device and/or install more databases from your PC/laptop by selecting the "Install Databases" option from the Start>Programs menu.

Installing Databases From An SD Card with CVSPalm
Once you have installed CVS/CTC Palm to your PC/laptop, you may copy the database (.pdb) files to your SD Card using any SD Card reader/writer of your choice. The Setup Wizard will place all CVS/CTC Palm database files in the "C:\Program Files\SEData Tech\CVSPalm\Files\" folder on your PC/laptop. You must have at least 2.5 MB of free storage space available on the SD Card in order to store all of the databases. Databases MUST be stored in the "/PALM/Launcher/" folder of the SD Card in order for CVS/CTC Palm to locate them. If the "/PALM/Launcher/" folder does not exist on the SD Card, you must create it prior to copying the databases to the card. The databases that you want to use must be loaded in your Palm's System RAM for CVS/CTC Palm to read them and cannot be opened by CVS/CTC Palm while on the SD Card. This is a Palm OS limitation and not a limitation of CVS/CTC Palm.

To copy files from the SD Card to your Palm's System RAM, select the Load Databases option from the Files menu on the main screen. The list of index (idx + year.pdb) and data (cvs + year.pdb) databases available on the SD Card are displayed in a scrollable window. Select either the index or data database file for the year that you want to copy to your Palm's System RAM. CVS/CTC Palm will copy both files to the Palm's RAM when the [Copy] button is selected.

Installing Palm Desktop on Windows Vista

When installing on Windows Vista, the user account where the Palm Desktop is to be installed must have Administrator Account Access and you must also turn off "User Account Control" before running the Palm Desktop Setup Wizard. To do this:

  1. Go to the "User Accounts" icon in the Control Panel. At the bottom of the window there is an option to turn the service On or Off. Turn the service Off.
  2. Reboot the PC/laptop. This is required for the setting to take place.
  3. Install the Palm Desktop software.
  4. Perform a HotSync operation to create the user account files on the PC/laptop.

You should leave the setting to the Off position unless you are having difficulties with other software. Turning the switch back to the On position will cause the Usernames list (in the Palm Desktop software) not to appear and HotSync Manager will not be able to determine which Palm Powered PDA to synchronize with.

Install Notes:

  • Pop-Up images displayed on this page refer to CVS For Windows Mobile and CVS For Palm. The installations are identical for both CVS and CTC applications.
  • You must have the Palm Desktop software installed on your PC/laptop prior to installing CVSPalm. The CVSPalm Setup Wizard will not execute if it cannot find the Palm HotSync Manager.
  • Some users have reported that installing the Palm Desktop on Windows Vista and turning off the "User Accounts" service after doing the installation still causes the Username list not to appear. If you have experienced this problem, un-install the Palm Desktop software, perform the above instructions and re-install the Palm Desktop software.
